Premier Credit was founded in 2013 and now operates over 80 branches in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Premier works mainly in regions where almost half of the people live below the poverty line and a third of adults do not have a bank account or otherwise access to basic financial services. More than half of the approximately 280,000 customers are women.
Premier’s keys to success are digitization and efficiency. For example, the MFI cooperates with the Kenyan mobile communications company M-PESA to enable its customers to make cashless and inexpensive payments – including the receipt of credit amounts. The institution takes its entrepreneurial responsibility very seriously: For example, it provides schools in particularly dry regions with free water tanks.
